Be a responsible citizen

Residents leave verges unkempt instead of making some effort to tidy up

EDITOR – Dear Woodlands residents I challenge you.

It is so demoralising to ride around our beautiful suburb and find a lack of pride in our neighbourhood. Residents leave their rubbish out days before it is going to be collected, garden refuse and other rubbish is left for weeks in orange bags that will never be collected. This then gets ripped open by dogs and is left to rot where it lies. Residents leave verges unkempt instead of making some effort to tidy up.

Even if the municipality should do this, take some time to keep your small area clean. Some residents leave their building materials (sand and stone etc) lying outside for weeks in parks and verges, whereas this isn’t allowed and should be in their yards. Garden refuse and tree cuttings are placed in the park areas around our suburb, and left there for someone else to remove.

It is up to each one of us to be responsible citizens and do the right thing, before our suburb slumps into a dirty slum.

I challenge each resident to take ownership and pride in where we live.

This is our home, isn’t it?
