Join in for annual clean-up

SOUTH Durbanites are invited to join an international initiative aimed at preserving coastlines next month.

The annual coastal clean-up is hosted by the ‘Friends of the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC)’. Volunteers across the globe will meet at their local beaches to remove litter and debris from shorelines, waterways and oceans.

Locals are invited to attend the Bluff clean-up on Saturday, 14 September from 9am to 12pm. The meeting point will be on Ansteys Beach, alongside the Green Dolphin. Teams of five will then separate, moving along the beach in both directions, focussing on the dunes. People are asked to bring strong gloves, hats, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, water bottles and lunch. Adults are invited to bring pokers.

For the dos and don’ts of the clean-up and to RSVP by 30 August, contact Tatum van Soelen from the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa on 031-467-8507 or fax 031-467-8288 or email tbeachedu@wessakzn.org.za.
