Ramaphosa visits flood victims at Montclair Lodge

Montclair Lodge is currently providing temporary accommodation to 413 flood victims, ensuring that displaced families have a safe place to stay.

PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa visited the newly opened Montclair Lodge on October 29 to meet the flood victims who have occupied the building.

The purpose of his visit was to conduct an in-loco inspection of the government-owned Emergency Accommodation Centre, established to provide temporary shelter for destitute families whose homes have been destroyed or washed away by floods and other disasters.

He was accompanied by Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane, KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, MEC for Human Settlements and Transport Siboniso Duma and Mayor of eThekwini Municipality Cyril Xaba.

The centre is providing temporary accommodation to 413 flood victims, ensuring that displaced families have a safe place to stay while longer-term housing solutions are pursued.

By providing its own emergency accommodation, government has reduced reliance on privately rented Transitional Emergency Accommodation, helping to save public funds while ensuring that affected families receive shelter when they need it most.
