Woodlands family mourn death of a son
A WOODLANDS family mourns the loss of one of their own in a head-on collision near Queen Nandi Drive on Wednesday, 7 August.
Sboniso Owen Gumede (31) was driving his company’s security response vehicle when a bakkie collided with him at 3.30pm. Sboniso died on the scene. He was laid to rest on Sunday, 11 August at Stellawood Cemetery.
The bereaved family has not yet made peace with his death. “ I miss him. I feel lonely without him. He was was a good child and always helpful,” said his grieving mother, Thembile Mkhize.
He was known for his friendly and fun-loving disposition. He was involved in youth upliftment and many remember him for his encouraging words.
The former Clairwood High School pupil aspired to be a policeman and he was due to start training in September.
The family is still recovering from the death of his older brother, a former Nottingham Road police station officer, who died in 2007.
