Business robbery gang nabbed
MONTCLAIR police officers' valiant pursuit led to the arrest of two men involved in a number of business robberies on Friday, 13 September.
Three men fled the scene of a business robbery in Maharaj Road, Clairwood with R37,000 in cash, two laptops and three cellphones. The business owner, who wishes to be unnamed, and his employees gave chase after the men who fled in a blue Tazz. After flagging down a police vehicle, the officers continued the pursuit.
The driver (46) of the vehicle was arrested but his two companions managed to escape. Police recovered the stolen laptops and cellphones along with an unlicensed firearm. Further investigations by W/O Rico Naidoo and his team led to the arrest of a 26-year-old employee of the company.
Both the men were linked to a number of robberies including a business robbery at the same premises on 1 March; a robbery at KFC in Clairwood where a pregnant cashier was shot; a robbery in Chatsworth on 13 July.
The men have been charged with four counts of business robbery, one count of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and one count for possession of property suspected to be stolen. The men appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 September.
