UPDATE: Car ploughs into day care centre

A 10-year-old child who was knocked over by a bus died in hospital on Thursday, 6 March.

LESS than a week after a car ploughed into a wall in Wood Road, Montclair, another vehicle has crashed into a day care centre on Kenyon Howden Road on Wednesday, 5 March.

The Truelock family was disturbed when they heard a loud bang outside their home around 9pm. Upon investigation, they discovered a bakkie had driven through two lamp poles and an electrical pole, before being brought to a stop by their wall and automated gate.

“The woman who was driving the bakkie, was driving up Kenyon Howden Road when she drove through the circle and ultimately crashed into our wall and electrical gate,” said Chris Truelock. The lamp poles were uprooted and live wires were exposed on the property. The family was also left without electricity. Their electric gate sustained the most damage and had to be unhinged, while the wall sustained moderate damage.

“We were traumatised by the incident. We were watching TV and the next moment there was a loud bang outside our property,” said Chris’ wife, Melanie. “It is not the first time it has happened. There are always accidents outside our road and cars have often driven into the wall. It’s happened about six times.” She suggests preventive measures, should be taken to decrease the number of accident on the stretch of road.

Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care confirmed the driver of the vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was taken to St Augustine’s Hospital.
Two more accidents were reported on the night. A car, allegedly carrying two passengers, landed on its roof at Nagel Square in Isleworth Road, Woodlands at about 8.30pm. Garrith Jamieson said: “When we arrived at the scene, the driver and passenger had absconded. The passenger did however return. She had not sustained any injuries.”

Earlier in the evening, a 10-year-old child was knocked over by a Durban Transport bus. The child died in hospital on Thursday, 6 March. Details surrounding the incident have not yet been confirmed, but it is alleged a group of children were playing in the road when one of them was hit by the bus.
