Death of taxi industry stalwart

Businessman will be remembered for his selflessness.

MONTCLAIR bade farewell to businessman, James Ngcoya, 77, who died after battling prostate cancer on Tuesday, 15 April.

Ngcoya was a co-founding member of the South African Black Taxi Association (Sabta) in the 80s, which is now known as South African National Taxi Council (Santaco).

He took the reigns as the association’s president in 1984. In 1988, he co-founded the Foundation of African Business and Consumer Services (Fabcos) and was their president from then on.

In 1992 he retired from the industries and moved to Montclair from Umlazi. His passion for the taxi industry was rekindled in the late 90s, as he worked to bring unity to the industry. Ngcoya will be remembered most for his generosity, compassion, selflessness and wisdom.

He leaves behind five children and nine grandchildren.
