Multi-agency operation yields 82 arrests

Captain Rhynes encouraged members of the public to continue reporting criminal activities by contacting Brighton Beach police station.

A JOINT operation between Brighton Beach police and other law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of 82 suspects for various cases.

The arrests were made during prevention operations and routine policing conducted in Brighton Beach last month.

Police spokesperson for eThekwini District, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said arrests included:

  • Three suspects for illegal possession of firearms,
  • One for murder.
  • One for attempted murder.
  • One for a sexual offence.
  • One for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
  • Two for domestic violence-related offences.
  • One for possession of suspected stolen property.
  • Two for theft.

A total of 21 suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes.

Police also arrested:

  • Seven suspects for shoplifting.
  • One for driving under the influence of liquor.
  • Four for malicious damage to property.
  • Four for being drunk in a public place.
  • Four for illegal dealing in liquor.
  • One for reckless and negligent driving.

In addition, one warrant of arrest was executed, 14 individuals were arrested for by-law contraventions, and 25 undocumented foreign nationals were detained for immigration-related offences.

“During the operations, police recovered three illegal firearms, 73 rounds of ammunition, and five firearm magazines. Other recoveries included three cellphones, one motorcycle, one stolen motor vehicle, and one vehicle allegedly used in the commission of a crime,” said Rhynes.

Drug recoveries comprised 16 heroin tablets, two Mandrax tablets, and quantities of crystal methamphetamine.

Police also issued 13 written warnings for various offences and compliance-related matters.

Brighton Beach police remains committed to addressing crime and maintaining law and order within the precinct.

“The station acknowledges and appreciates the continued support of community members whose cooperation and valuable information contribute significantly to successful policing efforts,” Rhynes added.
