‘Love thyself’ message rings through school

Grosvenor Girls High School pupils learn to accept themselves through dialogue.

SELF-acceptance, defying societal expectations and loving you was the theme of the day as Tayla-Veigh Houghton visited Grosvenor Girls High School on Monday, 26 May.

A third-year Vega student, Houghton taught the pupils about identity and weight through her own personal journey. In a bid to set the scene for a generation of more empowered women, the presentation dealt with identity and weight, two topics, according to Houghton, of social currency with which girls treat themselves and one another.

The more than 760 young girls were eager to discuss the topic, speaking of the low self-image they developed over years through the ideals of beauty disseminated by magazines, models and other sources. Stickers and posters were placed throughout the school to remind the pupils to love who they are.
