THE Merewent CPF youth desk appeals to the public to continue to support their blanket and jersey drive, in a bid to ensure community members are kept warm over the chilly winter.
The youth desk in conjunction with Brothers for Life Wentworth and the Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre has already distributed blankets to the homeless in Merebank, John Dunn Home in Wentworth and Isaiah 54 on the Bluff. More distributions will be carried out over next few weeks.
The original cut-off date of 31 May has been extended and the public is urged to assist where they can.
“There is a need in the community to look after those less fortunate. There are children going to school without socks and jerseys and elderly folk without jerseys and no-one does anything. People are so busy in their own lives that they do not see the need of others. We as the youth desk are trying to re-ignite the spirit of Ubuntu,” said CPF youth desk chairman, Darian Smith.
Through the drive, they hope to ensure that every family in the community has a blanket or a jersey. “We also don’t want to make it just a winter drive, but we hope people will continue donating throughout the year,” said Darian. The drop-off point is the Wentworth police station’s Victim Friendly Centre, also known as the Wentworth Resource Centre. They are also able to collect.
