Child taken on high speed drug chase

Police found a child in a car with two men in possession of drugs following a high speed chase in Wentworth.

PARENTS are warned to be aware of their child’s whereabouts at all times as an eight-year-old child was involved in in a high speed chase with two possible drug dealers in Wentworth.

While on patrol, Wentworth SAP officers, Lieutenant Houston, Sergeant Nagia and Constable Shoba noticed a man behaving suspiciously in a grey Golf. The policemen attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped away. A high speed chase ensued and the Golf was finally stopped in Victor Lawler Road.

Along with the driver, the occupants of the car included a second man and an eight-year-old boy. Two grams of dagga, 43 straws of heroin and R2,350 in cash was found in a search of the adults and the vehicle. They were arrested on charges of possession of heroin and dagga. The boy was returned to his parents.

The two men appeared in Wentworth Court on Thursday, 24 July and have been placed back in police custody as investigations continue.

Lt Houston warns parents that minors being transported in these vehicles will also be searched. “Parents need to supervise their children not to be used in smuggling drugs or allow them to accompany known drug dealers.”
