Woodlands WI receives feedback on Congress of FWI

PRESIDENT of Woodlands Women's Institute (WI), Maureen Lavis, opened the October meeting with a warm welcome to members and visitors and was very pleased to announce that the institute had gained two new members.

After the Mary Stewart Collect was read, Maureen thanked Linda Melson, who comes to their monthly meetings to judge all the competition entries on display. Well done to all who enter each month.

In the competitions, the following were notable achievers. Adult education: First May Scott, second Yvonne Potgieter, third Valerie Wagner.

Craft: First Sheila Mathieson, second Martie Caldwell, third Barbara Endres. Handicraft: First Martie Caldwell, second Sandra Naidoo, third Linda Gibbs. Floral: First Martie Caldwell, second Linda Gibbs. Best specimen: First Phyllis Parsonage, second Linda Gibbs, third Sandra Naidoo.

Best rose: First Phyllis Parsonage, second Sandra Naidoo. Best orchid: First Phyllis Parsonage, second Linda Gibbs. Merit: First Sheila Mathieson and May Scott, second Sandra Naidoo, third Valerie Wagner.

Home products: First Dawn Cowan, second Linda Gibbs, third Martie Caldwell. Embroidery: First May Scott and Sheila Mathieson.

Maureen gave members a report back on Congress 2014 held at Fernhill Hotel in Howick in September, which included the more serious aspects and the lighter entertaining moments enjoyed by all who attended. She added that she hoped next year more members would be able to experience the friendship and togetherness of fellow members of Federation of Women's Institute.

Woodlands WI meets on the first Friday of every month at Montclair recreation hall, 191 Wood Road, Montclair, at 9am for 9.30am and welcomes all to attend.
