Southern Aqueduct shutdown complete

After delays in the work on the Southern Aqueduct that resulted in an extended shutdown, the work has been completed.

WATER is in the process of being restored to many houses affected by the shutdown of the Southern Aqueduct pipeline. The eThekwini Municipality said water will be restored latest by tomorrow (October 3).

The system is being charged to fill the different reservoirs affected, including the Westcliff reservoir that supplies Coedmore, Yellowwood Park and Woodlands.

“As the reservoirs gradually refill and the system stabilises, the restoration of water supplies will therefore vary across the affected areas depending on reservoir recovery levels and system pressure,” said the municipality in a statement.

They added that customers may experience low water pressure until the system is fully restored. The shutdown was necessary to enable the contractor to undertake work for the new Southern Aqueduct upgrade project.

The municipality thanked the community for their patience while working on the upgrade and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
