HIJACKERS are targeting trucks in the Mobeni area.
This after three trucks were hijacked recently.
A truck driver was hijacked outside a business premises on Thursday, 16 April. At about 10.45am, the driver was approached by two men who told him to get into the back of the truck. They then covered the driver’s face with a jacket. The hijackers drove the truck to Gleblands Hostel in Umlazi where they offloaded tyres from the truck. The hijackers then ordered the driver to drive away with the truck. Police later recovered 17 tyres from the hostel.
On the same day, at about 6.45am a truck driver was approached on foot by three men while he was waiting in traffic just before the Higginson Highway onramp. Armed with firearms the men drove with the truck driver towards the N2 highway where the truck collided with an Isuzu bakkie. The three men got out and fled in a VW Amarok waiting on the side of the road.
In another incident, a truck driver was hijacked on the N2 South Coast Road offramp on Tuesday, 28 April.
At about 1.30pm the driver heard a noise in the bin of the truck.
He saw two men running with tyres. When the driver stopped to close the bin of the truck, he was met by two men who produced firearms. The hijackers forced the driver into the truck, blindfolded him and drove to Umlazi where they offloaded the tyres. The hijackers then let the truck driver drive off with the truck.
