Caring police restore breakdown biker’s faith in public sector

Once we were mobile, they took us into town and showed us where I could buy tyres as I wasn’t at all familiar with the area.

EDITOR – With regards to my return from Africa Bike Week over the long weekend of 27 April from Ramsgate to Johannesburg, I had a blowout on my trailer close to the Mobeni off-ramp, only to discover my spare wheel was flat and I had no wheel spanner that could fit to replace the wheel and continue with my journey.

To my amazement, God sent us three guardian angels on the side of the highway who informed us this is a hotspot for crime and if they could assist us in our hour of need as our safety was their concern. I was totally flabbergasted as you read about corrupt law officers and those impersonating the police as well as their vehicles that get duplicated or remanufactured to look like the original and exact item. The three angels were none other than W/O P Ellappen and W/O Marimuthu and a new candidate of the police force. Without any further ado, they arranged a tow truck to assist us. Once we were mobile, they took us into town and showed us where I could buy tyres as I wasn’t at all familiar with the area.

I would like to commend the staff of Montclair SAPS for being so competent and helpful and I can only think how well the police station is being run if this is the treatment that citizens can expect in this jurisdiction.

They have restored my faith in the public sector and make me proud to be a South African as in these troubled times, we can get despondent but this act of kindness and consideration for our safety is overwhelming. As a form of gratitude, I offered to buy them lunch to thank them which they rejected. I was disappointed at first but understand that this is the type of integrity we need in our country. I would like to thank these policemen and woman for turning a situation of misfortune into an acceptable experience.
