Do not chuck it, donate it to Arcadia Retirement Village
The Arcadia Retirement Village is looking to make this festive season special for the home’s residents by hosting a Christmas lunch.
REMEMBER that old sweater that you kept because you were one day going to fit into it but also completely forgot about – put it to good use and donate it to the Arcadia Retirement Village. The home is calling on the community to donate unwanted items (still in good condition) to its thrift shop.

Dawn Solomon, chairperson of the village’s entertainment committee, said that they hold continuous fundraisers throughout the year in hopes to have a hearty Christmas lunch and provide a small gift to the seniors of the home.
“At the moment, we are struggling to get the funds coming in, and with Christmas just around the corner, we are trying our utmost to put something special together for our residents. For some of our senior residents, Christmas can be a particularly difficult and lonely time, especially for those who no longer have family or friends nearby to celebrate with,” said Solomon.
Think twice before throwing it away
To help make this a special Christmas for the seniors at Arcadia Retirement Village, consider donating any of the following items:
- Clothes
- Linen
- Towels
- Kitchenware
- Ornaments
- Bric-a-brac
The thrift shop will accept any other unwanted items as long as it is in good condition.
Taking a seat
Arcadia Retirement Village also needs plastic chairs for its hall. Solomon said that they had recently purchased chairs but these were not up to quality and had broken.

“We tried to take them back to the shop but they refused to refund us as we did not want to change them. Unfortunately we cannot have inferior chairs in our hall as we cannot risk any of our residents fall and break a hip or get injured,” said Solomon.
The home is appealing to the community to donate spare plastic chairs that are good quality or help them acquire new plastic chairs.
