To prevent any further breakings SAPS, Brighton Beach asks that home owners ensure that security features that are in place and effectively utilised.

BRIGHTON Beach SAPS has warned the public to be vigilant following an increase in housebreakings recently.

“We are experiencing a slow increase in sporadic incidents of housebreaking. To prevent any further breakings SAPS, Brighton Beach asks that home owners ensure that security features that are in place and effectively utilised. Incidents reported predominantly indicate windows were left open, including small windows that did not have burglar guards affixed to some windows. Break-in occur during the hours of 6am and 10pm,” said media officer, Capt Louise Le Roux.

Items most sought after are electrical appliances such as flat screen televisions, mobile phones, iPads, laptops, tablets, notebooks and jewellery. Owners of electrical appliances are urged to make an inventory list of all electrical appliances which include their make, model, IMEI numbers and serial numbers. This list can assist the SAPS to link arrested criminal to cases, and will enable them to track items sold to second hand goods dealers.

“The public are urged to be vigilant of people walking or lingering in the streets especially in residential areas which have staircases leading to the beaches or shopping malls, sport fields, overgrown areas and places where construction or house renovations are taking place. Take note of these individuals’ appearances and immediately phone 10111 to make a report for response purposes,” said Le Roux.
