[VIDEO] Fire rages under M4 southern freeway bridge
Four to five metre flames threatening bridge's integrity.
There are fears that the fire raging under the M4 freeway bridge opposite the Huletts sugar factory may affect the structure’s integrity.
The freeway is about to be closed for safety reasons.
The fire department has been battling the blaze since it broke out at about 7am this morning underneath the southern freeway bridge in Clairwood. The tar of the freeway is smoking as a result of the intense heat from the fire and chunks of concrete have fallen from its support beams and undercarriage.
Park Patrol Security’s Chris Tomlinson was on the scene. “The fire may have been caused by pallets which caught alight, however the cause is still unknown,” he said.
