Bluff residents air concerns
At the request of the Speaker of the Ethekwini Council, Logie Naidoo, ward councillors were tasked with holding public meetings in May to hear the views of residents at grassroots level.
A HEALTHY exchange of opinions about the state of the Bluff took place at the 28 May public meeting called by ward councillor Duncan Du Bois and Bluff Alliance co-ordinator Ivor Aylward.
At the request of the Speaker of the Ethekwini Council, Logie Naidoo, ward councillors were tasked with holding public meetings in May to hear the views of residents at grassroots level.
“The response by those who attended showed that residents are not indifferent to conditions in their suburb.
They want to see progress and improvement and they want value for their rates contribution,” said Cllr Du Bois.
Among the many points noted were:
* Non-functioning street lights in parts of Tara and Bideford roads;
*Smashed wooden poles in the fence along Foreshore Drive and poor maintenance by DSW;
* Overgrown vacant land at the corner of Alden and Wentworth roads;
* Dumping at the bottom of Warberson Road;
* Incomplete grass-cutting at the Bluff Road reservoir;
* Social ills at Savon Centre;
* Excessive speeding along Tara Road in the evenings;
* Uncleared tar spoil from a pipe burst in Keston Crescent;
* Traffic congestion at intersection of Cherwell and Bluff roads at peak times.
Cllr Du Bois and Ivor Aylward undertook to address these issues in the weeks ahead.
Responding to a complaint about noise emanating at night from Bluff Meat Supply, the company’s Calven Robinson has explained that the use of generators during load-shedding times may account for the noise.
