Pub assists with karaoke patron’s cremation costs
“Louis had a way of reading people. We will remember him as someone who always made people smile.”
A BLUFF pub rallied around to ensure cremation of one of its patrons on Wednesday, 3 June.
Louis Engelbrecht, a friend of Wagon Wheel Saloon died on Monday, 25 May from unknown causes.
For the past two years he was a frequent visitor to the pub. Louis would often be seen at the pub on a Thursday and Sunday night for karaoke. He enjoyed singing numbers such as ‘Under the boardwalk’ by The Drifters, ‘Love will keep us alive’ by the Eagles and ‘You’re my best friend’ by Don Williams.
“Louis was the most kind and gentle soul, always willing to help everyone. He had a big heart and always supported the pub,” said Wagon Wheel Saloon manager, Annalise Stone.
Louis had no known family in the area and being so touched by his loyalty, pub owner Everitt Vorster and his team set to work to arrange his funeral. “His worst fear was not to have a proper funeral,” said Stone. The pub raised R4,700 and a service was arranged at Stellawood Cemetery.
Everitt and Annalise thank DST Décor’s Mike and Denise, Joe’s Platters’ Nicole and Jody and Double Bass’ Stewart and Charlene who helped with Louis’ funeral.
