Worshippers stung by bees after car leaves N2
Fire fighters continued to be stung as they worked on the injured.
RESCUE workers had to brave bee stings as they helped five people injured when a bakkie crashed down an embankment into a beehive on the N2 on Sunday, 14 June.
The driver of the bakkie, which was ferrying worshippers, lost control and it overturned and rolled down a steep embankment near NPC factory on the N2 southbound.
Rescue Care paramedics, Metro Police and the Durban Fire Department attended the scene. The rescuers were all stung numerous times while attempting to help the injured, two of whom had suffered severe injuries and all of whom had been stung multiple times.
Fire fighters had to use special rescue outfits to carry the victims up the embankment to the waiting paramedics, who continued to be stung as they worked on the injured.
According to Rescue Care operations director, Garrith Jamieson, one of the passengers, who had sustained serious injuries from crash was stung over 100 times in the face and chest.
Once stabilised on scene, all five were taken to hospital for further care.
