BRIGHTON Beach SAPS has issued a warning to owners of bakkies to be wary as thefts of these vehicles are on the increase in the area.
According to Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, thefts of light duty carrier vehicles, like bakkies, are becoming problematic within the Brighton Beach policing area. Older models that do not have tracking devices fitted are especially targeted.
“It is believed these vehicles are sought after for spare parts. Vehicles are predominantly stolen throughout the day, with sporadic incidents occurring during the night,” said Capt Le Roux.
Thefts have been reported both inside and outside business premises, at shopping malls and on sidewalks.
