It’s not only disabled who need special parking

Have people really got nothing better to do with their day than to watch wheelchair parking bays? What next.

EDITOR – An article about disabled parking getting a hotline was posted by Rake Jeeves on his newsletter, and while I agree that there is abuse of wheelchair bays and it needs to be addressed, Ari Seirlis has obviously never suffered with emphysema or shortness of breath.

This can be as crippling as a disabled person requiring a wheelchair and to say that other people with amputations, using walking aids, crutches and so on are not entitled to a bay close to a shopping centre, is appalling.

People in wheelchairs are not the only disabled people and someone needs to point this out. Ask those who suffer from disabling conditions whether their condition is lesser than others – I am quite sure they don’t think so. Also, shopping centres are private property so can a vehicle be removed by SAPS without the approval of centre management? They make it sound so easy. Now you are going to have hundreds of people phoning this hotline to report people who also have rights according to the constitution.

Have people really got nothing better to do with their day than to watch wheelchair parking bays? What next.

Shopping centres need to look at having special bays for moms and tots, disability bays, wheelchair bays. That way it covers a variety of disabilities. Make it fair and honest for all who have disorders.
