SATURDAY, 1 AUGUST: St George’s Presbyterian Church on the corner of Admiral and Wellfreer Roads, Bluff, hosts a fête between 9am and 2.30pm. Join in for morning tea with cream scones, muffins or cake. Breyani and boerewors rolls will also be available. Browse among the various stalls while the children enjoy games and tombola. All welcome.
SATURDAY, 1 AUGUST: Birdlife Port Natal outing to Vumbuka Nature Reserve in Amanzimtoti at 6.15am. Only 15 cars and 30 people are allowed. To secure your booking, call Elena on 083-583-6824, and take along a picnic basket.
SUNDAY, 2 AUGUST: Ianthe Hoskins’ brilliant talk on ‘Out of the silence’ will be presented at the Theosophical Society Durban Lodge, 306 Avondale Road, Morningside, Durban from 10am until 11.15am. Ms Hoskins has a master’s degree in English from the London University, is a multi-linguist and international speaker for the Theosophical Society, and has published a few books, one of which is ‘Science of Spirituality’. SATURDAY, 8 AUGUST: PR Pather Secondary in Merebank’s class of 1985 hosts a 30th reunion dinner at 7pm at the Coastlands Hotel in Umhlanga. They invite all ex-pupils from 1980-1985 to attend. THURSDAY, 13 AUGUST: KZN branch of the South African Military History Society meets at 7pm for 7.30pm at the Murray lecture theatre, department of civil engineering, UKZN Howard College campus. Speakers will be Jesse Wesseloo on ‘The world of Admiral de Ruyter’ and Stephen Coan on ‘The Great Escape: The South African connection’. Visitors are welcome to attend.
