A 41-YEAR-old pedestrian who attempted to flee when police stopped him in Austerville Drive in Wentworth on Tuesday, 4 August was found to be carrying bags laden with stolen bounty.
Wentworth detectives spotted a man carrying bags at about 11am.
When approached by police he attempted to flee. Police gave chase on foot and arrested him. On searching the bags, police found pairs of shoes, electrical drills, various tools, groceries and frozen meat. When he could not give a reasonable account as to how he came into possession of the items, he was detained for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen.
At noon the same day, Wentworth police received a report of a burglary on residential premises. The complainant alleged she had locked her premises and secured her property before leaving for work. When she returned home for lunch, she realised her home had been broken into.
She positively identified the property recovered earlier in the day by police as hers. A case of housebreaking was also opened and the man was charged. He appeared in at the Wentworth Magistrates Court on the 5 August 2015 and was remanded into custody until 12 August.
