THE South African National Blood Service (SANBS) calls on all South Africans to celebrate Heritage Month by donating blood and saving lives.
“As you don your traditional garb to mark Heritage Day on 24 September, the SANBS calls on you to celebrate another thing we have in common – our nation’s blood,” said the SANBS.
The organisation tries to collect 3,000 units of blood daily to ensure those in need have an adequate supply and the only way this is possible is through regular, committed donors.
“It is a remarkable notion that this precious fluid that runs through my veins could be exactly what you might need,” said SANBS communications manager, Vanessa Raju.
“Even though seasons change during the year, the demand for blood and its various products remains a priority throughout. The blood service must always keep stocks stable.
Whether you prefer cool drink to a cold beer, roasted butternut to a well grilled boerewors, this Heritage Month help us sustain our treasured resource, our nation’s blood supply,” she added.
Blood donors must be at least 16-years-old, weigh more than 50kg, be in good health and lead a sexually safe lifestyle. The South Durban Donor Centre is at Southway Mall and can be reached by calling 031-459-0986.
