Increase in theft of dogs in Merebank
There has been a recent surge in reports of dog thefts in Ward 68 and the community is urged to be on the lookout.
THE Merebank Residents Association (MRA) is calling on residents in Ward 68 to be vigilant as there has been an increase in reports of dog-napping.

How to protect your dogs
To take extra precaution, the MRA is urging residents to use the following tips:
- Keep dogs inside secure yards
- Check that gates, fences and locks are secure
- Do not leave dogs unattended in front or backyards for extended periods
- Be cautious of strangers approaching your property or asking about your dogs
- Ensure your dog has an identification tag and if possible microchipped
- If you have domestic workers, gardeners or security make sure they are aware of the security measures in place
- Report any suspicious vehicles or persons seen near properties
If your dog goes missing
In the unfortunate event that your dog goes missing, it is imperative that you act fast.
Firstly report the matters to the Wentworth police station and alert your neighbours and community groups by sending a clear photograph and details of your missing dog.
Often times these furry friends are more than just pets but an additional family member.
