Police net stash of unlicensed guns

Woman found with five rifles, including AK47.

BRIGHTON Beach SAPS crime intelligence along with other police agencies arrested a 38-year-old woman in Kranskop on Wednesday, 9 September for possession of five unlicensed rifles.

At about 9am, the intelligence unit and the PSS and Umhlali K9 units followed a tip-off which led them to a house in Kranskop.

During a search of the home the officers found two 303 rifles, an AK47, a mauser rifle and a shotgun. A woman in the home, who did not have a license for any of the guns, was arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“We appeal to the community to continue working together with the police by providing valuable information about illegal firearms in the province,” said KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
