NEW Forest High’s 60th reunion on Friday, 27 November, together with founder members who attended Woodlands, Southlands, Montclair, Assumption Convent and Mowat Park, is within sight.

The main gathering will be held in the newly enlarged, upstairs airconditioned hall at Durban Wanderers Club.

The entire club has been booked for the occasion, with all areas designated non smoking for the day. Smoking will only be allowed on the decks.

The reunion committee has issued the following final arrangements:

The dress code is smart casual, including smart shorts, with the colour theme being white, and grey. Doors open from 4.30pm onwards. Collect your name tag at the door and remember your entrance number which will be emailed prior to the reunion as this number will also apply to the many raffles which will take place.

A R20 entrance fee per person will be payable when you collect your name tag. This money goes towards costs for raffles, name tags, chips and so on. There will be a live band playing in the main bar downstairs from 7pm to midnight and hot food will be available in the lounge downstairs from 5pm to 9.30pm. There is plenty of parking in the front of the main club, on the tennis courts and extra parking on the field. Security will be provided.

A photographer will be on site to take photos. DVDs of the old NFHS days will be played on the TV in the main bar downstairs from 7pm.

A bus tour, at a nominal charge, will traverse the area for ex-pupils who would like to see the suburb, which will include a school tour providing there is enough interest. It will leave the club at 12.30pm to tour Montclair and arrive at New Forest High School at about 1pm for an hour visit hosted by the new prefects and staff. After the school visit, the bus will tour Woodlands and stop at Woodlands Club for refreshments, before arriving back at Durban Wanderers at 4.30pm.

Eric Redman will open the reunion at 6pm with the welcoming of all from near and as far afield as USA, Canada, England, New Zealand, Australia and across South Africa. Master of ceremonies, top racehorse trainer and TV personality Paul Lafferty will call back the past. NFHS principal Cherie Pet will speak and raffles will take place after the speeches.

Sponsorship are still required for some raffles. Email Eric at predman@polka.co.za if you can assist. The closing date for name tag number replies (via the same email address) is Wednesday, 25 November.

Remember, you need a number to gain entrance to the reunion.

In addition, New Forest High School 60th anniversary staff host a fourball betterball golf day at Amanzimtoti Golf Club on 20 November at a cost of R250 per person or R1,000 per fourball.

There will be plenty of prizes and snacks at prize giving.
