Pedestrian’s death is probed by police

Wentworth SAPS are appealing for witnesses to contact them

WENTWORTH police need help with information on the alleged murder of a man in Merebank on 1 August.

At about 10pm, Yashveer Singh aka Justin was walking with a friend along Buldana Road, Merebank. His friend said he saw a dark-coloured car behind them and he jumped out of the way. Singh tried to run to the opposite side of the road but was hit by the car.

Fearing for his life, the friend ran away. When he came back about an hour later he and a security patrol officer found Singh’s takkies but he was nowhere to be seen.

Singh’s body was later found at the corner of Marine and Badulla Drives, about 2,5km away.

Police said the dark-coloured car was possibly followed by a white VW Polo that was seen in the area soon after the incident.

Wentworth SAPS are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

“Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or can supply the police with the details of the vehicles is urgently requested to contact the investigating officer or Wentworth SAPS,” said communications officer, Lieutenant MP Gumede.
