BE a good superhero citizen and help Brighton Beach police fight crime by reporting criminals.
“Stolen goods are sourced through the committing of property related crimes, such as house and business breakings, theft of or out of motor vehicles and robbery. Theft of copper cable and non-ferrous metals also increases as the demand for these metals are created through theft and illegal trade,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
Flyers were distributed at local shopping malls, calling for the community to be the eyes and ears of the police and report criminal activities.
ADT Security and Brighton Beach SAPS’ secondhand goods law enforcement officer, Warrant Officer Anton Van Der Merwe and division media monitoring officers handed out the flyers to create awareness on reporting those who purchase, sell or trade in stolen items.
“We urge community members to reject any offer to purchase stolen property. By purchasing such items a market is created within our policing area, which in turn results in these categories of crimes increasing,” said Capt Le Roux.
Report may be made to the local police station, specifically the secondhand goods law enforcement officer or anonymously on the toll free Crime Stop helpline on 08600-10111, SMS hotline 32211 or www.crimeline.co.za.
