TWO men were found dead by Southern Wastewater treatment works employees this morning (Thursday, 17 December) after they discovered their limp bodies pressed against a bar screen.
Yesterday, the same two men, aged 25 and 27 were reported missing by a friend who was with them while they were searching for valuable items in the sewer system. The friend and only survivor, reportedly told Wentworth SAPS members that he and his friends entered the pipe at the former Clairwood racecourse.
It is alleged they got permission from a security guard to enter. “He said as they progressed further into the pipe they entered a hole filled with chemical water and they all began to feel dizzy from the strong smell,” said Lt Mabaso Gumede.
The surviving friend quickly escaped from the noxious chemicals but tragically had to watch his friends being swept away by the raging waters.

We sent a search and rescue team in yesterday, but they couldn’t find the bodies, until this morning. The bodies were fished out and taken to the mortuary,” added Lt Gumede.
