Wanted trio re-arrested, linked to old crimes

Police collar wanted criminals through new technology.

THANKS to a diligent Brighton Beach SAPS officer and modern technological advances, three wanted criminals were recently arrested.

Using the Max electronic fingerprint identification system, Brighton Beach SAPS management information centre’s Constable Garth Mei identified three people who with outstanding warrants of arrest throughout eThekwini.

The first man arrested was wanted in five cases; the first in 2009 for possession of heroin in the Bayview SAPS policing area; the second for possession of suspected stolen property in Montclair in 2011; third for housebreaking and theft in Tongaat in 2012 and the final two were in Chatsworth, for failing to appear in court in 2012 and reckless and negligent driving in 2013.

The second man was arrested for shoplifting with two warrants of arrest in his name from 2015 – one at Amanzimtoti police station and the other in Durban North.

The final arrestee was wanted for possession of heroin in Lamontville in 2014.

“Cst Mei is acknowledged for the re-arrest of three wanted persons thus enabling the SAPS to bring these habitual criminals before a court of law, so they can be prosecuted. All the suspects were denied bail, were remanded to Westville Prison and are now awaiting trial,” said communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
