A GARDENER has helped the police assist a Wentworth home owner, who is a recent victim of crime, to retrieve his stolen items valued at R15,000.
Members of Wentworth SAPS, W/O Craig Brigetta and Cnst Thandi Ndlovu investigated a complaint of a housebreaking in progress in Nerissa Road. On entering the premises, they noticed the window was broken and a step-ladder was found outside the house.
While the officers were inspecting the area, a gardener from the house next door told the officers he had seen a man inside the house and gave a full description of what the suspect was wearing. With the information in hand the officers left the house and began their search. Not long afterwards, they spotted a person who fitted the description. “The suspect saw the police van coming towards him and he ran into dense bush. They gave chase and arrested him two roads away from the scene,” said Lt Gumede.
The suspect, aged 20, was taken to the scene of the crime and positively identified by the gardener. The stolen items were seized by the police. The owner of the house identified the items as his belongings. He was pleased by the quick response of both officers. Items stolen were electrical equipment , tekkies, cell phones, an aluminum step-ladder and a computer, all to the value of R15,000. The suspect appeared in Wentworth Court on the 28 January.
The case was postponed to 2 April while the accused remains in custody.
