Montclair’s rising star takes TV show by storm
He had a knack for languages and quickly learned Zulu
RISING Montclair star, Wade Delagey is making a name for himself in the media world with his popular television show, Abo mzala.
The comedy show airs on SABC 2 at 8.30pm on Tuesdays and so far the show is a hit. Delagey plays Jason, a flamboyant and colourful white boy who fluently engages with his Zulu cast members. It’s an unusual setting but he has taken South Africa by storm.
Since a young age, Delagey had a knack for languages and quickly learned Zulu through observation and daily exposure from his friends. “Since I was eight-years-old I’ve been speaking Zulu, it has been a God-given gift as it has taken me to greater heights in my career,” he said.
Walk in faith, don’t talk your faith
It was in high school, when the successful actor realised his gift for entertainment and made it a point to hone his talents. “I have worked for DYR radio, Gagasi FM and in 2011 I was approached by the makers of the show to be part of Abo mzala. I speak mainly Zulu in the show and I’m having the time of my life,” added Delagey.
Besides acting, he has dreams of becoming more involved in community development. “I hope one day to run a programme for the community to teach the youth to believe in their talent and also develop their self-confidence. I want to empower and motivate others to strive for more.”
He advises aspiring actors or entertainers to not be afraid. “TV is not all glitz and glamour but if you have the gift and the ideas, use it, share it but protect yourself and your art,” he said. He urges the youth to keep practising their talent, to pray daily and trust in themselves and God. “Practise faith. As my grandmother would say: “Walk in faith, don’t talk your faith.”
