Contest tests bridge building skills

The successful annual Durban regional SAICE bridge building competition 2016 to be held at Unite, the University of KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, 4 August from 8am, provides pupils with this opportunity.
The regional competition is organised by the Durban Branch of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).
The SAICE Durban branch invites schools to attend this regional of the SAICE international bridge building competition. Pupils are not often exposed to the practical applications of processes through civil engineering which impact their daily lives. This competition affords them such an opportunity where they can experience the thrill of bridges being planned, designed and constructed, only to be tested to destruction in order to determine the winner. Watch as hopes soar and dreams are shattered or come true, when a bridge carries a heavy load before breaking.
Through the bridge building competition, many a pupil has over many years been inspired to become civil engineers – all contributing to infrastructure development in South Africa.
