Women’s Month police partners lauded
LOCAL organisations and individuals were rewarded for their efforts in making a success of the Brighton Beach SAPS’ Women’s Month projects.
At a prize-giving at Brighton Beach police station on Monday, 12 September, station commander Colonel Carel Grobler awarded partnership policing certificates and trophies to those involved in the SAPS national project, Operation Basadi 2016 – Women’s Month within the Brighton Beach policing area.
Award recipients were Brighton Beach SAPS vispol operational support commander, Captain SJ Kruger; Nogada SA; Security Force; Mzansi Fire and Security Armed Response; Blue Security and Prof Risk Security Services and the principals of Grosvenor Girls and Boys high schools, Kenmont, Durban Academy and Bluff Christian Academy.
“Recognition was also given to those who provided administrative support including the Rising Sun Merebank; Photo City Bluff, AC JJ Coetzee; SAC III L Binedelle and SAC III JN Weich,” said media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
She highlighted the three projects hosted by the station during Operation Basadi.
The first saw the protection of women and girls at the fore, with a demonstration held at the intersection of Tara and Grays Inn roads while brochures on public safety for women and girls were distributed.
“The aim of the campaign was to create awareness among women and girls to take the necessary measures to ensure their personal safety and minimise the risk of violence against them.”
The second project was a rape myth prevention campaign. Pupils at five local schools were taught about the Sexual Offences Act, Act 32 of 2007; rape myths and rape categories.
“The aim of the project was to encourage boys and girls to report their sexual offenders.”
The final project revolved around internal health and wellness of police women. A photo gallery was created as a tribute to these women.
“The foundation a woman creates for others in the workplace is achieved through balancing success, honesty, integrity, faith, love and loyalty towards everybody’s life she touches. The objective of the photo gallery is to make all female employees feel they belong within the organisation and that each one of them has a significant role to play to support it in its daily functioning.
Capt Le Roux was also acknowledged for creating the various projects and taking up the responsibility as operational commander. Through her creativeness and dedication she enhanced the corporate images of the Brighton Beach police station and strengthened existing partnerships with stakeholders that support the Brighton Beach policing precinct.”
