Gardeners learn more about ‘king of herbs’
After an inspiring and enjoyable morning, president Karolina concluded the meeting with a garden quotation.
NATALIA Garden Club had a successful plant sale last month and grateful thanks are extended to club members who donated plants.
Karolina welcomed members and visitors Ken Chang and Christine Small.
Members who can are asked to support the club fundraiser by selling a Christmas cake raffle list. Congratulations to Jeanne Buitendag, Joyce Huygens and Nora Brown who received 200 point prizes. Thank you to Pieter du Plessis who spoke on the importance of trees to conserve the environment and nature at large. The club wishes Ann Barker well for her birthday this month.
Margaret Everett gave a talk on some poisonous plants. Guy Westbrook spoke on the dragon fruit plant and Karolina Kotze gave hints on conserving water and information on the wonderful ‘king of the herbs’ – basil.
The competition table will comprise of the following this month:
Decorative: A decorated plant pot (a pot only); cultural: A yellow flower. The other usual monthly categories are best bloom/spray, an orchid, a pot plant and from my garden. The speaker at the next club meeting will be Margaret Everett. Her topic is anthuriums.
