Stage play offers nostalgic tour

BRIGHT lights, smoke machines and fairytale adventures captivated the crowd at Van Riebeeck Park Primary School’s Aladdin adventure stage production before school broke in he third term.
On 29 September some of the school’s grade 6 and 7 pupils took to the stage for a charming portrayal of classic, Aladdin.
The scenery, costumes and musical numbers brought showbiz pizazz that enthralled the audience. The 30-minute piece was shown to pupils and parents for one day only and mystified and delighted all who attended.
“We are trying to reintroduce the dramatic arts in the school and this was a great way to involve the children,” said school principal, Paddy Padayachee.
The production, which was the brainchild of the school’s drama teachers, was enticing and interactive, as pupils were asked questions relating to what they saw on stage.

Comedic timing musical numbers made for an enchanting escapade. From the genie, to the not-so-villainous bird, Iago and the famous duet by Aladdin and Jasmine, the show was a nostalgic tour of a beloved children’s tale.
