Karaoke queens liven up Stainbank WI’s 45th birthday
Connie Stringer the long time member cut our birthday cake and there were best wishes from many institutes in the area together with thoughts from another long time member Maureen Bailey.
STAINBANK Women’s Institute (WI) celebrated its 45th year with a wonderful birthday party that was made special with a performance by the ‘Stainbank karaoke queens’.
President Arlene Greenfield opened the special meeting with a warm welcome to all visitors and members.
After the singing of Unity and the Mary Stewart Collect, the WI then gave a special welcome to Federation president Noleen Walker and executive member Maureen Lavis.
Thanks to all the members who decorated the tables and a special thanks to Beattie Johnston Webber for the amazing floral decor.
The snacks, which were as usual scrumptious, disappeared quickly at tea time.
The president had a few awards to give out. The first and popular was the wooden spoon which this year went to Sheila von der Zon and then the most enthusiastic, which went to Beattie Johnston Webber. The star award which the president gives to a member who is always there to help and assist, went to Linda Hewer.
Congratulations to all these members. It was then necessary to discuss a few resolutions which were required for Congress. Many members considered there could have been better resolutions put forward. All the raffles were drawn and then it was on with the show – and what a great show it was. Members of Stainbank WI were entertained by the one and only ‘Stainbank karaoke queens’ made up of Arlene and Linda with the assistance of Lynne Graham. They gave a most outstanding performance.
It really had the audience calling for more.
Thank you so much to the ‘Queens’ – a lot of hard work obviously went into that performance and it was greatly appreciated. This great 45th birthday party ended with the WI prayer and best wishes to all members and visitors The next meeting will be on the first Tuesday of the July and all are welcome to attend.
