Young dancers urged to audition with Wentworth school
The NGO appeals to all youth aged from five to 20 years-old who are interested in dance to audition
PROSPECTIVE young dancers who are looking to get ahead in the world of dance should consider auditioning for non-profit organisation, the Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation on Saturday, 27 January 9am at the Transhaven Centre in Treasure Beach.
The NGO appeals to all youth aged from five to 20 years-old who are interested in dance to audition for the popular Dance Movement programme.
The dancers will be required to take a short introduction class with the choreographers and learn a few dance steps to assess their ability. Now in its 11th year of operating, Dance Movement offers an array of dance styles from hip hop, break dancing, contemporary, jazz, local, and may other styles too for youth to train.

The project has presented many opportunities to the disadvantaged youth in the community including dance qualifications, festivals, competitions, dance productions, performing with local artists and international recognition.
“Over the years Dance Movement has not only been a facility for excellent dance training but a platform for the youth to be exposed to the arts and entertainment industry that gives an opportunity to explore an artistic career,” said artistic director Jarryd Watson.

Last year dancers had the opportunity to work on local and international music videos from Kiaen Cruz and British group Rudimentals and worked adverts for Discovery and Toughees.
With many accolades under their belt including representing South Africa in the UK and US twice at prestigious dance events and winning Durban Dance Youth awards, Dance Movement continues to be an academy with a purpose of contributing to youth development and sustaining the growth of arts in the South Durban Basin.

Michael Ogle, who has been with Dance Movement for seven years, has won many dance awards including best male twice in a row and has travelled to the Broadway Dance Centre in New York with the group. “I have experienced many opportunities with Dance Movement but the highlight for me was travelling to New York and dancing in the Toughees advert.” I thank Jarryd for all the hard work he has put into Dance Movement, and growing the youth. Michael also won the ‘all-time achievement’ award from Dance Movement last year which provided him with a bursary to study the arts after school.
