The Dance Movement is one of the most popular initiatives within the organisation and has seen dancers perform abroad for dance competitions and workshops. “Even though there has been no clear funding allocations and businesses are yet to come on board to sponsors us, we are still pushing to keep the Dance Movement project which is aimed at children in the South Durban basin communities. This has been the most challenging year for us but I still believe we will be able to succeed if the community shares our vision in maintaining and growing this project for the youth in the community,” said director Jarryd Watson.
The Dance Movement project which has been from pillar to post trying to find venues for training and rehearsal space is now at a temporary space a Bluff Tyres where the owner has generously offered the available space to assist the programme.
“We are very grateful to Bluff tyres for their offer as this has allowed us to continue under temporary circumstances. However, we had to discontinue our special needs disabled programme as we are on the top floor and this doesn’t have wheelchair access for those dancers to get into the room. Also, our dance trainers have to train over 70 kids in a room that can accommodate a room only for 15 people, ” said Brice Naidoo, secretary of the organisation.
