Wentworth BC’s Troy makes it to PN U30 inter district tourney

At 1.30pm on Saturday, 13 July, Simon and Troy Garland and Kearan Lassak will take on Matt Lassak, Johan Nel and Brad Claassens in the drawn trips final

With the Port Natal leagues over, activity around club competitions at Wentworth Bowling Club have gained momentum.

This weekend sees some of the club’s men busy with trips finals. At 1.30pm on Saturday, 13 July, Simon and Troy Garland and Kearan Lassak will take on Matt Lassak, Johan Nel and Brad Claassens in the drawn trips final and at 9am on Sunday, 14 July, Simon, Troy and Brad will face Matt, Vic McCreanor and Lew Scrooby in the nominated trips final. With the men all striving to have their names entered in gold on the honours board, exciting games are anticipated. Wentworth Bowling Club is proud to announce Troy Garland’s selection to the Port Natal bowls under 30 team to participate in the Bowls South Africa under 30 inter district tournament in Gauteng in September. After winning the Port Natal novice singles earlier this year, Troy has gone from strength to strength and his ability has been recognised by the Port Natal selectors. The club congratulates Troy and wishes him good bowling in the inter district tournament.

The community is reminded of the promotion and development bowls played on Wednesday afternoons at WBC. Play starts at 2.30pm and participants are required to register by 2pm. Last week saw Denzil Lewis and Amelia Booysens take top spot in the competition. Anyone interested in learning about lawn bowls is invited to enjoy the game in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Following the success of the club’s annual July day in which members entered in the spirit of the theme ‘Stars of Africa’ and dressed accordingly, a decision has been made to hold a ‘gold cup day’ on Saturday, 27 July. Details of the theme will be released soon.
