Bluff Bowling Club’s women’s team excel in Port Natal pairs
The semi-finals take place on Sunday morning, 22 September at Stella Park Bowling Club
Four Bluff Bowling Club women’s sides made it through to the last 16 and three teams progressed to the quarterfinals of the Port Natal pairs at the weekend.
On Sunday, 15 September, two teams made it through to next week’s semi-finals. June Foster and Wendy Fleetwood unfortunately went out in their last 16 match, while Elize Stapelberg and Phyllis Maritz were knocked out by fellow Bluff players Daphne Reinhardt and Sarie Bisset in the quarterfinals. Bridget White and Glynis Macrory defeated an Amanzimtoti side to join Daphne and Sarie.
The semi-finals take place on Sunday morning, 22 September at Stella Park Bowling Club, with the final following in the afternoon.
On the domestic front, Chad Wilson and Ryan Warren were winners of this month’s Grand Rapid Spur any pairs when they amassed a score of 4+17, with Anne Bonthrone and birthday girl Honey Kitchenbrand second on a 4+12. The first session was won by Denzel Venter and Vic Mc Creamor of Wentworth on a 2+3, while Robert Mhlongo and Noel Morel romped home in the second session with 2+15. Due to the small field as the B green is closed for renovation, there was no 50/50 board. However, Dudley Dorrofield and Honey Kitchenbrand took home the chickens in the raffle of the day.
On Saturday, 14 September, the outstanding men’s drawn fours semi-final was played and Jorge Santos, Eddie Human, Ryan Warren and Ian Hayes edged out Gary Moffat, Noel Morel, Phil Hill and Lionel Diamond in a close encounter to progress to the final.
Last Saturday the finals of the women’s drawn fours was played and this year’s champions are Elize Stapelberg, Janice Rogers, Dawn Spack and Glynis Macrory, as they edged out Bridget White, Lilah Nel, Phyllis Maritz and Paula Osman 18-15 to take the title.
The John Dory any pairs competition takes place on Thursday morning, 19 September. Have your name down by 8.30am.
There are still tickets available for the women’s fundraiser which takes place on Friday, 25 October, when the Gee Jays perform. See Steve Larkin or Allen Ritchie to purchase your tickets. This promises to be an entertaining evening and is in support of the women’s annual tournament.
Neither the joker draw nor the attendance draw was won on Friday, 13 September, as Spider Williams was not present for the second week running and forfeited the prize once again, while Daphne Smart’s joker ticket was drawn, but alas the elusive joker card was not revealed and the prize money now stands at R2 849, which is up for grabs on Friday, 20 September.
To hire the hall, call Gary Moffat on 076-680-4577.
