WATCH: Learners enjoy story time under a tree

"The teachers selected books that learners identified with, were related to themes in class and that would pique their curiosity and inspire their imagination," said the school's librarian, Rozelle Munien.

INTERNATIONAL Literacy Day observed annually on 8 September, inspired teachers to read to their learners at Montclair Junior Primary School. On Thursday, 12 September, the Grades R, 1, 2 and 3’s, with their soft toys, lead by their teachers, took to the school field to find a spot under the tree to enjoy story time.

“The event was suggested by our principal, Mrs Jackson, in an effort to inspire the imagination and encourage learners through listening to stories dramatised by their teachers. The fresh air and sunshine on the field contributed to the novel atmosphere allowing the learners to relax both body and mind,” said the school’s librarian, Rozelle Munien.

Teachers were dressed up to pique the learners’ interest in the activity. “The teachers selected books that learners identified with, were related to themes in class and that would pique their curiosity and inspire their imagination,” she added.
