Celebrate your heritage at Wentworth Bowling Club

South Africa celebrates Heritage Day on Tuesday, 24 September, and as always Wentworth BC is going all out and invites everyone to enjoy the day.

Wentworth Bowling Club members wish Troy Garland and the Port Natal Bowls U30 team best bowling as they leave this week to compete in the Bowls South Africa inter-district tournament in Gauteng.

Wednesday’s development bowls saw a big turnout of regulars who show weekly improvement on the greens. Thanks to those members who repeatedly turn up on Wednesdays to help the new bowlers with the rules and skills required to play the game. This week winners were Helmut Brutti, Vee Husiath and Delight Mtolo. Wednesday’s bowls are an open invitation to any members of the community who would like to try their hand at the game of lawn bowls. Be at the club at 2pm to register for a game or call Margaret Walters on 082-961-8538 for more information.

South Africa celebrates Heritage Day on Tuesday, 24 September, and as always Wentworth BC is going all out and invites everyone to enjoy the day. The merriment starts with fun bowls (anyone can join in) at 10am. Thereafter an ‘eat as much as you can’ lunch of traditional food will be provided. The menu is boerewors, pap and sauce, chicken curry and a potjie, followed by milk tart and koeksusters (regret no takeaways). Entertainment will be live music from the 60s, 70s and 80s with ample space to take a spin on the dance floor. To book your meals, contact Fred on 082-396-3503 or 072-190-0379.

Dressing up to show your heritage is optional, but the club would like to see the greens filled with colourful bowlers depicting a rainbow nation. Those of Scottish heritage are requested to consider carefully when donning their kilts – bending to deliver your bowl could prove rather hazardous.

The club welcomes Tom and Maria (Sina) Cavanagh back in South Africa after a two month family holiday in the UK. Members are reminded that nomination forms for the 2020 club committee have been posted on the main notice board, giving members the opportunity to decide who should head the club’s affairs in the coming year.
