BAYVIEW FC’s last match of the season was an action-packed game from the start.
The Bluff U15 boys were up against Newlands United FC on Sunday, 22 September, at the Bayview Sports Ground.
Both sides had goal-scoring opportunities but failed to convert them. Bayview conceded a penalty, but Brendon Swartling, Bayview’s goalkeeper, managed to block the shot. Both teams were scoreless in the first half.
Bayview won a corner kick in the second half, and the shortest player on the field, Asive Mdolomba, headed in the first goal for the day in favour of Bayview. The drama continued, Newlands United’s goalkeeper handled the ball outside the 18-yard box, and was shown a red card by the referee. The keeper was the last line of defense and stopped a goal scoring opportunity while Newlands United was down to 10 men.
A through ball to Seth McLean aided in the scoring in the top left corner. The final result was Bayview 2 – 0 Newlands.
