Wentworth attempted murder suspect pleads self-defence

Investigations are ongoing and a case of attempted murder is being investigated.

A WENTWORTH man suffered gunshot wounds to his left thigh on Monday night, 15 March.

Police were alerted of a shooting incident and proceeded to the scene at Cycas Road.

“The victim was transported to hospital prior to the arrival of the police. Upon questioning the victim on how he got injured, he alleged that the suspect shot him in the yard,” said Wentworth police communications officer, Captain Mbuso Gumede.

Gumede explained that police proceeded to the suspect’s house and questioned him. “The 33-year-old suspect had informed the police that the victim entered his premises and was armed and thereafter tried to shoot him, but he managed to withdraw his firearm, which is licensed, and shoot at him first in self-defence.” The police had seized the firearm and ammunition. Investigations are ongoing and a case of attempted murder is being investigated. The victim is stable in hospital.

The accused suspect appeared in the Durban Court on Wednesday, 17 March.
