SAPS’ school safety awareness a success
Covid-19 care and educational mini-packs were distributed by Le Roux and civilian in society retired reservist, Captain Avril Fabre, during a foot beat activity.
BRIGHTON Beach police station’s back-to-school safety campaign was concluded with a foot beat operation at Bluff Towers Mall.
On Tuesday, 9 March, the Brighton Beach Women’s Network partnered with residents and the business sector to host the juniors’ back-to-school public awareness initiative.
Corporate communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux, created a Covid-19 care and educational pack for this project. The pack had the aim of reconditioning children on Covid-19 compliance at school and the dangers they may encounter when occupying public spaces.
“Through the thoughtfulness of civilians in society, Granny Vicky Cowan, and her grandson, Dylan from Umhlanga, had created a junior material mask which they gifted toward this initiative. These were placed in the mini care packs accompanied with a mini-poster for children on the six steps of correct hand washing techniques.”
“The pack also included a brochure from the Department of Health on the correct way to wear and care for a mask. Within the pack, parents, guardians and caregivers had also received a child safety and protection information guide. To educate the recipients on aspects of child abuse, indicators of possible child abuse and general safety of children when occupying public spaces and safety when swimming,” said Le Roux.
“To ensure that learning takes place through a fun activity, children who received these packs were issued with a SAPS colouring fun safety rules for children’s activity book. Through illustrations, the book teaches children not to talk to, take treats or lifts from stranger, leave home without permission or play with dangerous objects.”
“Bullying is also discouraged and the book also explains the actions of the characters in the official 11 languages. The colouring book came with a mini pack of crayons and a lollipop.”
