Dig a little deeper to help feed Bluff families in need

Ward 66 vulnerable groups and gender committee coordinator, Lee Ravenscroft is calling on the Bluff public to help her continue her mission to feed the many living below the breadline.

Ward 66 vulnerable groups and gender committee coordinator, Lee Ravenscroft is calling on the Bluff public to help her continue her mission to feed the many living below the breadline.

With the help of her team and generous donors, she has been supplying Bluff residents in need with basic food parcels since January, but sadly her stock has depleted.

“It has been a while since I have been able to make a delivery to all of the people on my list and it is growing. I only have five regular donors for consumables. Two of them are not even residents of our beautiful suburb.

“Many precious humans donate household goods and clothing which is first sorted and offered to those on my list in need of them. The rest are put on sale at the Harlequins Market on Saturdays with the blessing of the donors to raise funds. Sadly, the little that is raised at the market is never enough to supply much more than a few vegetables to supplement the staples,” said Lee.

The committee is involved in projects that support struggling families and individuals as well as those residing in local registered informal settlements. They cover the areas of Oceanview, Grosvenor, Fynnland, Brighton Beach and Wentworth on the Bluff side of Wentworth Hospital.

With cold weather setting in and the numbers of new requests for assistance coming in, she has reached the point of desperation. Lee appeals to the community to dig deep in their pockets to donate to her worthy cause.

The Vulnerable Groups Committee is reliant on donations of everyday essentials to keep its dream and vision alive. Items such as rice, mielie meal, samp, beans, soya, flour, salt, cooking oil, bread, jam, sugar, tea bags, toilet paper and toiletries including sanitary wear are needed. Second-hand clothes and shoes in decent condition are also required.

To assist or for more information send a WhatsApp to Lee on 062-944-8289.
